UCF undefeated with no pathway to play for title. Seems fair.

Their best win is against a three loss team. Big whoop.

So which one of the final four teams did you want to replace with UCF? And don't say 8 team playoff--that is impossible until the existing contract expires in 2025.

I wouldn't say impossible improbable more like it because if ALL sides want to rework the contract they can

It's impossible in that no one, ESPN, conference commissioners, college presidents, or College Football playoff executive director, has the least interest in making it happen.

While we’re discussing options for a better system to decide the college football champion, you’re arguing that the current system is - wait for it - the current system. I’ll have that participation trophy sent over right away.

It would not have been a mistake to include UCF in an 8-Team playoff.

Improbable: You win the National Power Ball after buying a single ticket.
Impossible: You don't buy a ticket and expect to win.

Let me make this as clear as possible. There was no chance for an 8 team playoff in 2018. None. Zip. Nada. So to make an 8-team scenario for this year is an exercise in mental masturbation. There is also no will to expand the playoffs by anyone in power (ESPN, college presidents, ADs, coaches, conference presidents) any time before the end of the current contract. If you have some evidence to the contrary that I haven't seen, please post it. But since nobody (or a coalition of nobodys) is going to step forward to make it happen, it's as "possible" as winning the lottery without buying a ticket.

A "better" system is your opinion. Is it better for 18-22 year old kids to play an NFL length schedule? Is it better for team's fans to have to make plans to travel to three far-flung playoff sites? Is it better for a network that is in the midst of financial cuts to have to shell out for rights to four more games?

The only people that want to see an 8 team playoff are people with allegiances to non-Power 5 conferences and degenerate gamblers.

I'm so glad. Hopefully Sumlin is the next coach, even though it always seemed unlikely to me.

*Just saw that Sumlin is from the same small town as Fred Snowden.

Hey Gary, nice 8 team playoff you posted there a couple pages back that somehow leaves out the possible National champion (Alabama). You must be one of those Trumpian geniuses.

1) Bama didn't even win their division, let alone their conference. Their only hope was a committee in their back-pocket;
2) The same committee that didn't get it right - again. The "experts" playing gatekeeper had Clemson and Oklahoma as the top-2 teams.
3) You bite your tongue! I resent the implication of any personal support or association with those deplorable Trumpian shitbags.

As an alumni of 2 Power5 schools, I just want a system slightly less arbitrary instrument than a committee of power-brokers deciding which 4 teams give the best ratings. Every single conference outside the SEC worrying about whether their conference champion will even be in the tournament is no way to live.

Again, the potential National Champion is not in your final 8. Explain again how your system better? The selection committee at least recognized that Alabama is one of the four best teams in the country. You had 8 chances to reach that same conclusion and failed.

And my point, which you've never been able to refute, is that no one wielding an iota of power is even interested in expanding to 8 teams any time soon. Nobody.

I thought I already congratulated you for acknowledging the existence of the current format? And I don’t deny the power-wielders have their own interests at heart and will seek to maintain exclusive access to their own benefit and everybody else’s expense.

What’s your proposal? Keep the system as-is in perpetuity?

I admit I’m not the decider or one of the entities wielding all the power - yet. And my system isn’t perfect, but none are. But I like the traditional bowl tie-ins that the current system broke, I like conference representation that the current system fails at, and I like a legitimate path for twice as many teams. And I don’t want to see further Expansionocolypse with each Power5 growing to 16, and we all know they will, because that’s the only way for G5 teams to have a chance at a title.

A committee is shady. Establish a system and let it play out however it does. Works for every other sport.
