I read that book shortly after it came out in 1972. I was 12 years old. It had a very profound effect on me. Obviously that is an age where you start to become more aware of the world around you, (although truthfully that started in 1968-69 for me). The overwhelming sense of injustice portrayed in the book is something that stuck with me my entire life, (even though I'm quite hazy on the details now). At the same time the strength of perseverance in the face of adversity was a lesson well learned too.

RIP Hawk. Thank you for a life that taught me some valuable lessons.
