Didn't find a thread on Harper specifically, so hopefully this is ok. Just curious to everyone's opinion on the whole "kiss" incident. Apparently Bryce Harper blew a kiss at a pitcher after hitting a HR. Rumor is the pitcher did the same to him earlier in the game, but ultimately Harper is the "Bonus Baby" so he is the one with the bullseye. Interesting article from mlb today.

Baseball Etiquette for Bryce Harper

Quote:
Hall of Fame slugger Mike Schmidt, appearing on ESPN's SportsCenter, said that Harper should "tone it down and just play the game." Added Schmidt, "At some point in time, I probably would have realized [as an executive for the Nationals] that Bryce Harper has the ability to react that way, and I would say, 'Bryce. Look. If you plan on hitting a lot of [homers], you better learn not to show up the pitcher, because it's just going to get tougher and tougher on you if you watch your home runs. "Just hit your home runs, and hit them like you're used to hitting them, not that you're surprised when you hit one." It's like that old Paul Brown philosophy in football. The legendary coach of the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals told his players to hand the ball to the nearest official after reaching the end zone, because he wanted them to "act like they've been there before."

He'll get humbled. Baseball will do that to ANY player.

Got promoted to AA today, skipping hi-A ball all together. Sure looks like he will be in the majors next year.

I was hoping he would be coming to New Britain but at first glance it doesn't look like they will.

Nats want Harper to start RF Opening Day in 2012

I think this is a bit of a stretch, the kid struggled to hit Double-A pitching last season.

Yeah, I don't much see the point. I would at least make him hit a bit at AA and wait till June.

I've been considering heading down to DC next week. May have to so I can see Harper.

He certainly doesn't seem ready. Hasn't hit since leaving high A.

LOL

Kid's a showboat, taking his helmet off while going from first to second on his first ever hit (a double) .....talk about fake hustle, at least wear a loose helmet that will just fall off while you're running so fast.....

Pretty good debut, a sac fly on a rope, a deep double over Kemps head to straight away center, hit the base of the wall.....a great throw that if the catcher had held on to would have nailed a guy at the plate.

He was all over the highlight reels.....deservedly so.

Good article linked by Nick today.

It will dispel some previously held notions of who Harper is and what he is about.

Thought the kid was the next Todd Marinovich before I read this.

Hamels was suspended for admitting he intentionally hit Harper last night. I don't really care about guys intentionally getting hit. Harper ended up stealing home, so I'd say he got the last laugh. However, Hamels was stupid to admit it.

Not sure if anyone was watching the game, but he hit a little flair just over the shortstops head into left, and knowing Juan Pierre was out there, rounded first and took off for second sliding in head first. Of course Pierres throw nowhere close.

I LOVE how this guy plays the game. He plays hard. He plays it RIGHT. I am quickly becoming a Bryce Harper fanboy.

Oh, and look at how much class he showed when told about Hamel's admission:
Quote:
Harper took Hamels' admission with a chuckle, according to the Washington Post's Adam Kilgore: "He's a great guy, great pitcher, knows how to pitch. He's an all-star. It's all good."
