So happy for Max. Very deserving. Plus he's a great guy.

His third Cy Young. Max is not so quietly putting together a Hall of Fame career.

The way HOF cases are judged these day for starters I think he needs at least 600 and maybe another 1000 innings of pretty high level performance.

Max is 33 yr, 3 months, and 19 days old, and is at 1897 IP, 141 wins, and 3.30 ERA, 45 WAR

No starting pitcher with less than 200 wins and an ERA over 3.50 has made it into the HOF

If he pitches 6 more years, and throws 1000 innings he would be at about 2900 IP. (You have to account for some later career low inning totals)

If he averages 12 wins for the 6 years he comes in around 213 wins in that case.

But the ERA probably starts to move up towards or over 3.50 ERA as he declines.

So the criteria voters use 11-12 years from now would have to undergo a significant adjustment. They might just do that. Hard to say.

OR, he needs to maintain close to current level and at least get to Halladay levels, (2750 IP, 3.38 ERA, 203 Wins, 65 WAR

Interesting timing to check out Bill James World Pitcher Rankings

Kluber 1, Scherzer 2, in dead heat.

BTW, Archer #20.....lol
