RIP former Diamondbacks coach Don Baylor.

When he was a player he was a specimen. He could really run and he looked like he could pick you up and snap you like a twig if he wanted to.

He was the 1979 MVP on an Angels team that included Rod Carew, Bobby Grich and Nolan Ryan, leading the AL in runs scored (120) and RBIs (139) that year.

He finished 4th all-time in times being hit by a pitch, which shows you a big difference in the way the game is played now - he'd be in a fight ever other day in today's game!

I met Don only once, but during that one short meeting I got insight into what a rare and decent human being Don was. It was at Whole Foods Market during Spring Training a few short years ago, and with nothing but a "How are you doing, Don?" from me, he opened up conversation with me like I was a long-lost friend talking in unsolicited detail about what was happening that week with the Diamondbacks and with him.

We lost a good man, ballplayer, and coach this week.
