It's totally obvious that the owners and management knew that players were juicing and did nothing. However, that is far in the past. Eventually they took a stand and said it ends now. They didn't go back and try to punish people for juicing when ownership did nothing but they said that it cannot continue. ARod (and others decided that the new rules didn't matter to them and they tried to cheat the system. ARod was a special case that took it to a new level. Fuck him and his team of lawyers. I hope he gets a lifetime ban.

If true, this not only makes him the biggest cheater in the history of the game, but a person of vile character. He better be careful throwing teammates and other players under the bus legally.
This is like something in a made for TV movie...... Absolutely Unbelievable.

Scott Miller of CBS Sports has an interesting take on "A-Rat" and the whole situation:

For whiffing on A-Rod trade, today Red Sox fans are the lucky ones

Here's a great quote:

Quote:
No wonder Braun quickly surrendered and accepted that 65-game suspension. He could have woken up with a horse's head in his bed.

And another one:

Quote:
"Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, or a Toledo Mud Hen?" Hank Steinbrenner snarled at the time.

Now, he apparently wants to go in as Barry Bonds. Oops.

A longtime friend of Ryan Braun's filed a lawsuit against the suspended slugger last month, charging that Braun defamed him after the friend provided help in his successful appeal of Braun's positive steroid test in 2011.

Ralph Sasson, 29, makes a number of personal accusations against Braun, saying in the lawsuit that Braun doped through his years at the University of Miami, committed academic fraud and accepted money while a student.

Meanwhile, USA Today reported Friday that Braun is close to admitting he used performance-enhancing drugs during parts of the 2011 season. The newspaper, citing friends of Braun who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the suspended slugger plans to apologize to commissioner Bud Selig, urine collector Dino Laurenzi Jr., his teammates and his peers.

The sad thing to me here is that he was a damn good hitter with or without PED. He didn't need them.

Maybe he would have hit a few less homers, I don't know. But he was gonna be a star either way.

Ryan Dempster takes a stand.

Please pardon Jeff Pearlman's language, but this video's worth seeing all the way through.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't love seeing what Ryan Dempster did - twice - last night. It's nice seeing the non-cheating players finally taking a stand.

If every pitcher did this, A-Roid would serve his earned suspension like a man.

I'm now a huge Ryan fan too! EVERYONE who is clean needs to let him know in no uncertain terms how they are pissed at his soiling of the game of baseball, and their livelihood.

Bob Nightengale, USA TODAY Sports wrote:
Perhaps Boston Red Sox starter Ryan Dempster delivered the message everyone else in baseball wanted to send Sunday to Alex Rodriguez.

The message: We don't like what you're about.

Presumably, Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun might have tuned in from his Malibu, Calif., home.

Braun detests Rodriguez but, suddenly, A-Rod is his new best friend.

The circus act surrounding Rodriguez has improbably improved Braun's fortunes, particularly in the eyes of Major League Baseball.

Sure, Braun messed up big time. He is serving a season-ending 65-game suspension for his connection to performance-enhancing drugs.

But at the least, in less than a month he has gone from the game's biggest pariah to Not A-Rod.

There are so many questions for Braun to answer, particularly regarding his treatment of Laurenzi.

If nothing else, Braun admitting guilt should assure that the 2014 Brewers avoid the circus of daily allegations and conspiracy theories engulfing the Yankees, thanks to Rodriguez.

That moment when ARod stepped up to the plate was almost surreal. The whole stadium was booing him and started chanting something involving the word "cheater." The ESPN broadcasters wisely stayed quiet to emphasize the moment. I've never heard boos turn to uproarious cheers in such a short time as when Dempster hit ARod. It was awesome. It's regrettable that the Sox couldn't hold him (or the Yankees) though.

It's a start. Don't like how he glossed over his apology to Dino Laurenzi in one line, but at least Braun took some ownership and showed some accountability. He still has a long way to go though. Mere words are not enough, particularly well-scripted ones. He needs to "face the music" and answer some questions from those he has wronged. And then he needs to give back--to his Brewer teammates and fans, to all of baseball, and to Mr. Laurenzi.

From Roy Firestone tonight:
"If you are truly contrite, you don't apologize and ask forgiveness on a press release. Ryan Braun is a friend of mine, he's been helpful to my charity, so I don't say these things just shooting from the hip. Ryan owes a full out public apology complete with reporters and he should answer every question until they are out of questions. What he did was despicable. He lied, cheated, tried to hide behind a technicality, and tried to imply that another human being was a possible anti semite when he was just trying to do his job. He threw the game under the bus. And now he's hiding from the public. Again."

I wouldnt have put it as nicely as Roy, but I think thats the general sentiment. Braun's press release cut the wound a little deeper for himself, and in no way stopped his bleeding.

Does Braun really need to be the nemesis of all mankind? He isn't the 500th player to use PEDs and lie about it.

That may be so; but what has made him the "bad guy" is the way he's handled it all.

* He used PEDs; and has now admitted that he knew it was wrong when he did so.
* He denied it - and was "exonerated" on a technicality, laying the blame on someone who subsequently lost his job.
* Upon being "cleared" he did everything but swear on a stack of Bibles that he had never used PEDs, and would never even think of doing so.
* When the new allegations surfaced, to his credit, he didn't fight/appeal the suspension; but now his statements hearken back to the same persona that earlier had protested his innocence, as he tries to minimize what happened, and the impacts of what happened, for his time, the guy who got fired, and for MLB.

He no longer comes across as sincere or honest; but rather as slimy - a phony, and a fraud, as one Brewers fan so wonderfully captured with a modified Braun jersey. He tried to lie and bluff his way out; and he will never be able to shake that image.
